A home is a place of residence or refuge and comfort. It is usually a place in which an individual or a family can rest and be able to store personal property. Most modern-day households contain sanitary facilities and a means of preparing food. Animals have their own homes as well, either living in the wild or in a domesticated environment. As an alternative to the definition of "home" as a physical locale, home may be perceived to have no physical definition--instead, home may relate instead to a mental or emotional state of refuge or comfort.

There are certain cultures in which members lack permanent homes, such as with nomadic people.

Home prices way down, should your city raise property taxes to make up for lost revenue?
Q. In my home town the value of homes are down as much as 30 percent. Most of the revenue for schools and police comes from property taxes, so rapidly lower housing prices have cut the revenue needed for these important things. What should the Mayor and City Council do with rapidly falling home asssesments and tax revenue, should they raise the tax rate to make up for the difference?

Ending a home based business - what are the tax implications?
Q. I've been writing off my home based business for the last few years. If I stop using that portion of my home solely for my business, how do I indicate that on my taxes? Additionally, does anyone know of any resources that indicate what the implications are of stopping a home based business write-off? I see lots of information on how/what to write-off for a home based business, but can't seem to find anything on what to do when that ends.

A. You don't show on your tax that you ended the business, but keep track of the depreciation allowed or allowable while you were claiming the home office deduction - you'll need that number when you sell the house.

How much does it take run a home based business?
Q. Like if you run a business as one person. You already have all the things you need right at home to get your business started like office space and equipment. Compared to running a business outside your home. Are home businesses and businesses outside the home equally as hard to run? Seeing that you have all the equipment and work space at home along with your skills to market to customers, how much more do you need to put into running a business from home?
