Furniture (probably from the French 'fournir' — to provide) is the mass noun for the movable objects ('mobile' in Latin languages) intended to support various human activities such as seating and sleeping in beds, to hold objects at a convenient height for work using horizontal surfaces above the ground, or to store things. Storage furniture such as a nightstand often makes use of doors, drawers, shelves and locks to contain, organize or secure smaller objects such as clothes, tools, books, and household goods. (See List of furniture types.)

Furniture can be a product of design and is considered a form of decorative art. In addition to furniture's functional role, it can serve a symbolic or religious purpose. Domestic furniture works to create, in conjunction with furnishings such as clocks and lighting, comfortable and convenient interior spaces. Furniture can be made from many materials, including metal, plastic, and wood. Furniture can be made using a variety of woodworking joints which often reflect the local culture.

How do I clean furniture with veneer ?
Q. I used Pledge to clean a piece of furniture that has veneer. It looks good after I clean it put if I place something on it afterwards it leaves a mark. It goes away if I clean it with pledge again but I wanted to know if there is a different type of furniture cleaner made especially for veneer?

A. Pledge or Murphy's Oil is all you need. Nothing should be leaving any marks, but as long as it does come up with pledge, thats fine.

How do I get furniture polish off of ceramic tile?
Q. Our kitchen floor is ceramic tile. My husband wanted to spray Lysol but accidentally grabbed Pledge furniture polish instead and sprayed that. Ever since then the floor is super slippery. I've mopped and mopped and mopped but it's still slippery. How can I get the furniture polish off the tile?

A. Try a degreaser like Pine Sol, Simple Green or Mean Green. You can also try LA It's totally awesome cleaner. You may have to apply full strength, let it get soapy on the floor and then clean it up. It may take a few times but it will work.

Does unfinished furniture still need to be sanded prior to staining if I use a pre-stain wood conditioner?
Q. My furniture is made of parawood which is a light-wood similar to pine.

A. Yes.I would sand ...we used to give any new wood products a water bath with a damp cloth...let it dry and then lightly sand. The water bath causes the grain to raise just a bit and helps remove dirt and finger oil from the surface and if it hasn't removed it ...the water helps raise enough grain up and a light sanding will help. It helps to make a better looking finish if you are staining...if your painting I still would lightly sand. It's just like a car...the way to find the flaws is to lightly wash it...on the way by...your likely to spot the little chips and problems and be able to overcome them...good luck and all the best on your project. bye
